i love these lists because it tells me just how connected katie desires to be in relationships. she is watching. she is taking the time to list and to remember important things about people she loves.

i want my kids to get relationships. i want them to invest in other people not because it's easy or convenient, but because people are the only thing eternal in this world. i want them to love intentionally, and i want them to love well. relationships, ALL relationships, take work. take effort. take discipline. take time. take heart ache. take sacrifice. require selflessness.

our home is the training ground for every other relationship our child will have. how we love, how we interact, how we address sin, conflict, pain, joy, hardship, excitement; together as a family will determine how our children go from here and interact with others.

that is why sibling rivalry, sibling competition, sibling ugliness, sibling gripping, etc.. etc.. is quickly addressed and not allowed here.

what if we all stopped today and wrote a list with ten things about the people that we loved. not ten facts, but ten things that we KNOW about people because we care to watch and take note of them, because we care to be in relationships with other people. my, how we might surprise ourselves!

be relational. people are the only investment that lasts forever.
