I Need You, Mama....

this is my favorite saying that anderson is using these days. and to be honest with you every time he says it i can not resist whatever it is i am being called into.

i need you, mama.... to come wipe my poopy bottom
i need you, mama.... because i just dumped hummus all over my shirt
i need you, mama.... because my shirt is stuck on my head and i can't pull it down
i need you, mama.... because i can't drag my dirty bicycle into the house by myself
i need you, mama.... because i just dumped a gallon of apple juice onto the floor even after you told me to wait.

and even just now as i was typing this...

i need you, mama.... because i just peed on the couch cushions.... (ARGH!)
i need you, mama.... to hold me
i need you, mama.... to cuddle me
i need you, mama.... to give me loves
i need you, mama.... for a smooch
i need you, mama.... to kiss my boo-boo

every time i complete the task i have been beckoned too, i sweep him up in my arms kiss all over his irresistible cheeks and say, "you better always need your mama!"

but in all reality i know that he will grow up, and Lord willing be as strong, courageous, God-fearing, and an independent man like his daddy, and the other worthy men we surround him with. he might not always need me the way he needs me today, but i pray he keeps a little bit of his heart for just his mama ;)! i pray that he will honor me and love me the way Mark loves his mom, and the way my brothers sacrificially love my mom.

happy tuesday,

Daylight Depression

Dear Mr. George Vernon Hudson,

While maybe in 1895 in was a good idea to remove a hour of daylight in the autumn, it's kind of making this Mama cranky and depressed. Especially, because I gain nothing accept an earlier wake up call from my 2 year old son who has yet to grasp your DST plan. It is also painfully dark when my terribly handsome husband arrives home in the evenings. And from about 4:30 on, all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep....forever!

I am sure many appreciated your proposal 112 years ago. But I wouldn't mind having my sunlight back.

The times are changing.

Just saying,

a very special gift....

this huge mural hangs in our living room.  mark did this by hand right before katie-bug was born.

i love the first line, "Children are a gift!"

how contrary to what the world is telling us. people judge and criticize our family constantly because of our outrageous number of kids (sarcasm) ;) everyone wants to forecast how horrible the adolescent years will pan out around here, how the cost of college tuition, weddings, car insurance, will sink us. the list of rude and insensitive questions and comments are unending.

but in the end, after critiquing our choice to have a large family people always ask, "how do you do it?"

ultimately, it's because deep, deep, down we view our children as unending gifts just waiting to be opened. and because of this conviction we prioritize our time, activities, attitudes, and money, to be the ones to unravel those gifts.

no, not everyday feels like a gift. today, Anderson poured dawn over my entire kitchen, unrolled the ULTRA toilet paper roll in the bathroom, lucy wept loudly and dramtically at barnes and noble yesterday about a stuffed horse, julia and katie grumbled they whole time they had to clean their nasty bedroom yesterday at 4 o'clock (the worst hour every for a SAHM). i didn't feel so "gifted".

but then in moments like this afternoon, when i have a few spare moments of pure quiet while children fake sleep in their beds, and i glance at this sign when i pick up the hundredth small toy i stubbed my toy on, i realize it's already november and the days, months and ultimately the years are passing through my fingers and ignore me as i grope for them to slow down. my children, every one of them is a gift.

not only are they a gift. but they are a gift sent from God. sent from throne of the Almighty, the Alpha and Omega, the Savior, the Messiah, the Redeemer, the Beginning and the End, has gifted these human lives in our care. He strategically placed them in our family, for such a time as this.

my amazing thursday night bible study studied psalm 139 last night. it resonated in my heart all night long. i dreamt of my niece or nephew having the finishing touches placed on their finger nails, the extra puff of strength placed in their lungs, a little more chunk on those cheeks, (thanks for the images, aimee) of course it lead me back to the nearly 160 weeks i spent carrying my babies as they grew inside of me. it's awe-inspiring. nothing short of jaw dropping intimacy. He desires to point us to Himself every time a new life is formed. He is the designer and His creation spells out just how wonderful He is.

for a very brief time these children of ours will fill this home with kids shoes, loud kid laughter, ear piercing squeals,  energy zapping whines, cries in the wee hours of the night, smiles, hugs, forever loads of laundry, stinky bottoms, dirty kitchen floors that never seem clean, tiny dora pillows, toe stubbing toys EVERY WHERE, mac-n-cheese filled bellies, ridiculous 3rd grade homework at the wrong time of the day, dawn soap filled counters, and the love of our outrageously large family (sarcasm) bursting at the seams.

oh, what a magical gift i am watching grow in this very house,

the flies missed the memo!

with my handy-dandy lewis lipp remedy i have not seen an ant around here in months... but all of the sudden we have been inundated with pesky flies. HELP, LEWIS!! besides, the good old fashion fly massacre party with my swatter (great anger therapy btw), i have no idea how to rid our house of these nasty, nasty, creatures. we are suppose to be below freezing tonight... maybe the cold will kill them.

i am not sure if it's the season, the upcoming birth of our new niece or nephew, being in KC, or what.. but i am just overwhelmed with gratefulness and deep emotion for my siblings. without them, oh my, it would be a boring, drama-less, painful, lonely, laughless, journey.

we all bring an amazing gift to our family that makes it whole. makes it somehow more bearable to walk through "the valley of the shadow of death" hand in hand. united in our desire to release mom into a place of restful joy. united that each day we will savor life. EVERY LIFE. united that we will have eachother's back, and lead block when necessary. an unending to place to find support, a head butt if you deserve it, a listening ear, some drama for the boring days, and a soul that knows your past inside and out, and the promise of being there for your future.

today i am ubber grateful for each of them and what they bring to my life.
i, no doubt, have a special treasure in my siblings!

here is to my siblings!

ok, so i am totally that mom and i have no shame. i read katie's diary. and i will continue to read her diary until i decided to no longer read her diary. no, i will not post her secrets. but i will post some of the unending lists she creates. she has always been a list maker. before she could write she would beg me to write lists for her. starting at about age 2 :)

today's lists include 10 things she knows about each person in her family. i will leave her spelling so you can enjoy it also.

10. he has hasle (hazel) eyes

i love these lists because it tells me just how connected katie desires to be in relationships. she is watching. she is taking the time to list and to remember important things about people she loves.

i want my kids to get relationships. i want them to invest in other people not because it's easy or convenient, but because people are the only thing eternal in this world. i want them to love intentionally, and i want them to love well. relationships, ALL relationships, take work. take effort. take discipline. take time. take heart ache. take sacrifice. require selflessness.

our home is the training ground for every other relationship our child will have. how we love, how we interact, how we address sin, conflict, pain, joy, hardship, excitement; together as a family will determine how our children go from here and interact with others.

that is why sibling rivalry, sibling competition, sibling ugliness, sibling gripping, etc.. etc.. is quickly addressed and not allowed here.

what if we all stopped today and wrote a list with ten things about the people that we loved. not ten facts, but ten things that we KNOW about people because we care to watch and take note of them, because we care to be in relationships with other people. my, how we might surprise ourselves!

be relational. people are the only investment that lasts forever.

Halloween Pictures!

trick or treat!

such a treat was had.

it was super special getting to trick or treat with my nieces, sister, and brother-in-law for the first time EVER! whoop-whoop. after each house my darling unicorn niece exclaimed, "this is the best night ever" at the top of her lungs! LOVE.IT!

Anderson had a last minute costume change to a pig. ummmm really, can you ever eat pork again looking at that cuteness? he asked if we were going trick-or-treating tonight? i said, "nope, 364 days to go" :)

we have already had our first candy sneaking behind the couch. it was followed with a swift moment with mom. i was assured it would never happen again... the first person to correctly guess ON THE BLOG (no email, FB, or texts) which child it was receives a bag of candy from us. BTW, Paula La need your favorite coffee.

it was fun. super fun.

i lead games at katie's school party. a hoot. total hoot.

some of julia's bday party pics are thrown in here too.

enjoy the collection!
